Operating Costs and Revenue

Once the home is transferred to Family Haven, Inc., all operating costs will be the responsibility of Family Haven, Inc. Since Glenmoira will provide the home in “like-new” condition and mortgage-free, there should be minimal initial maintenance cost. This, along with Family Haven, Inc.’s well-respected experience in providing and funding homes for its residents for 35 years, will enhance the continued operation of this home.

A major ongoing cost will be the 24 hour, 7 day a week staffing cost of an in-home service provider. These assistants will support residents (individuals with developmental disabilities) with activities of daily living while building relationships of mutual care and support. Assistants foster unity and participation among all members of the home, allowing residents to discover and share their gifts. Family Haven, Inc., as the service provider and home owner, will administer these costs and operations. Financial support is provided through the State of Ohio Developmental Disabilities Waiver System and Social Security disability benefits. Family Haven, Inc. will be responsible for billing Medicaid and other payors directly for their services. Supplemental needs of the residents can be met through family support and support of Family Haven, Inc. and its mission.

Family Haven, Inc.

At this time, Family Haven, Inc., which operates the Fontbonne Home in Bay Village, Ohio, is interested in being the service provider and home owner. Fontbonne Home was developed for several reasons. A trend had been established in the 1970’s to move residents from large institutions to community alternatives such as regional centers, group homes, and foster family homes. Also, parents were concerned about the future care of their sons and daughters after their own deaths. Most of all, it was evident that people with developmental disabilities make significant social and physical gains after moving into group homes.

In June of 1982, Sister Genevieve Lane, CSJ, Ph.D. opened a home in Lakewood with three female residents. Family Haven, Inc. incorporated as a private, non-profit organization providing residential care for adults with developmental disabilities. Family Haven, Inc. is a faith-based organization, but it is not supported by the diocese or any religious community.

By 1990, Family Haven, Inc. decided to expand its program. Bay Village, Ohio had recently passed an ordinance allowing group homes and Family Haven, Inc. found a lovely home there. Fontbonne Home moved in December and two more residents were added to the Fontbonne family.

The main objective of Fontbonne Home is to provide a loving, home-like, family atmosphere using best practices where adults with developmental disabilities can maximize their potential in the least restrictive environment. Fontbonne Home is dedicated to the principle of enabling residents to live as typical and dignified lives as possible within the limitations of their disabilities. They should have access to all general community services that they can use in common with others.

In addition, an effort is made to sensitize the public to the many attributes of persons with developmental disabilities.

Fontbonne Home strives to provide acceptance as well as feelings of belonging and self-worth to each family member. Most importantly, Fontbonne Home strives to provide a program which insures each member the highest quality of life.
